After a harrowing week of avalanches, rescues, death and destruction, the 3 member Ecuadorian climbing team made up of Oswaldo Freire, Esteban Mena and Carla Perez Summited the mountain at approximately 10:30pm EST. last night. They are expected back in base camp within the next 2 hours. The team were forced to borrow climbing gear from other expeditions after their tents and climbing necessities were blown off the mountain by the avalanche. It is a testament to the determination, faith and hard work of the Ecuadorians that they were able to accomplish the mammoth feat of summiting the 8th highest mountain in the world with no supplementary oxygen in spite of the many obstacles. Congratulations "Somos Ecuador"!!!
