    'New River Lokoja

Barely a week ago, motorists plying the ever buzzing Abuja Lokoja road were stunned when what used to be a road was flooded. Is it true that Republic of Cameroon recently opened its dam? Is it true that the Republic of Cameroon had informed the Federal govt of Nigeria about the dam and even urged Nigeria to cooperate with her on the issue? Could it be so true that the flooding at Lokoja that has affected,Kogi,Benue,Plateau&Anambra states was majorly because The Republic of Cameroon opened its dam? And within a few days, what this writer called 'a new river Lokoja' has emerged like an unwanted guest who forced his way into a party! Several houses were submerged, property worth millions of Naira was destroyed and lives were lost. FGN reaction was either slow or inadequate. For a major like Abuja-Lokoja road, which no fewer than 10,000 vehicles ply everyday, the road was closed but no adequate alternatives were provided for motorists to&fro Abuja.Investigation conducted by this reporter revealed that just one single Naval boat was provided to ferry people and their vehicles across the river. It was the private owners who provided about ten ferries, one of which this reporter boarded to Abuja.
