This incident needs to published and parents need to be aware of a incident at a Danville local daycare center, formally known as DRMC which recently changed owners and now known as Family First Children’s Center.

There was an incident that happened last week at the daycare center located at the Danville, Virginia Hospital. This incident involves my son Randy, his wife Michelle and their 1 years old daughter, Katlyn.

I Michelle Gibson was notified by NAME OF REPORTER HERE, Ms. xxxxxx  xxxxxx, a reporter with Danville Register & Bee, that Ms. Michelle Pittman, Director of Family First Children's Center, located at ADDRESS OF THE DAYCARE CENTER HERE  has requested consent in writing by me to speak about the incident that occurred last Tuesday, September 25, 2012 during the time of which I, Michelle Gibson arrived at the daycare center at 5:20pm to pick up our daughter, 1 year-old Katlyn Gibson and left the facility at about 5:45pm.

This consent will also include when I, Michelle Gibson entered the Family First Children's Center on the day of Tuesday, September 25, 2012 and went directly into the room of where the children remain throughout the day at the daycare center. When I entered the room, I found the lights turned off and the door opened.  I looked around and saw Katlyn belongings on the shelf by the refrigerator and I did not seen anyone in the daycare centers room during this time. I walked back out of the room and into the hall and saw Ms. Jennifer Paul, a Assistant Teacher at the daycare center facility, she was down the hall from the room and I shouted to her several times to gain her attention, "Mam, Mam. Ms. Paul turned and started to walk toward me and I had asked her, “Where is Katlyn?” Ms. Paul replied to me, "She must still be in the swing asleep, but I was told that Hayden was the last child and he has already been picked up.” I replied, “Oh my god! My child is in that room all by herself.” We rushed back into the daycare centers room, and found Katlyn in a swing asleep. So I went over to the swing, picked up Katlyn, collected her belongings and left the Family First Children's Center at about 5:45pm.

Randy tried calling the daycare manager that evening, no one answered and had left a phone message for a return call. The next day (Wednesday), Randy did speak to an administrator at the daycare center and on the following day (Thursday), another administrator called my son Randy and had suggested for them to seek another daycare facility.

This incident should be on video tape as the daycare center video their daily events. Randy had asked to review the daycare video, the daycare center would not allow for him to review the tape nor would they allow for them to obtain copies of Katlyn’s medical records from the daycare center.

The Danville Police Department was notified, they did not feel as this is a child neglect case, took a report and the investagaing officer amitted that he has no children, but smerked several times while discussing the insident. Michelle has reported to the State Health Department of Virginia.

There is even a daily parent sign in and out sheets kept on the children at the daycare center, its apparent that its not viewed when the employees leave for the day, or even a walk through inspection of the daycare center upon leaving the facility. I believe a few years ago in he same city of Danville, Virginia; a woman bus driver was fired when she left a child on a school bus.

Randy and Michelle had found another daycare provider and Katlyn was enrolled.

I fear the thought if Katlyn tried to remove herself from the swing she could have hung herself, or a fire, she could have awoke and feared being along in the dark or even taken.

This is not acceptable and needs to be investigated by the state and others. Parents need to be aware of the daycare mishaps, especially when their children attend this particular daycare center.
