Tested for the breast cancer gene?

    Previvor mom

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     4kkzv says it wasn't a shock to find out that she was a BRCA gene carrier but she still cried. She says, 'I didn't look at having the BRCA gene as a death sentence but as an opportunity to take action so that I could live longer for my children.'
    - Jamescia, CNN iReport producer

In 1996, my mother at the age 48 passed away from breast cancer. In 2002 my then only child,Kyla aged two passed away. I became a motherless child & a childless mother. I went on to try for more children-my dream. I had two more and then In 2008 I learned I have the BRCA 1 gene that has me predestined for breast and ovarian cancer. My aunt and mom were both diagnosed at young ages. Since dealt this hand I've conceived and birthed my fourth and final child. I was able to nurse him for as long as he wanted. 19 months! Then on 9/23/11 I had oophorectomy & hysterectomy. Dealt with the hot flashes for nine months. Three weeks after the surgery i ran my first 5k. The liz hurley ribbon run in Huntsville Alabama with about 5,000 other women. I walked the survivor walk with my sister and daughter in memory of our mom and aunt. Then on 2/1/12. I underwent my PBM, prophalaphic bilateral mastectomy. I opted for expanders and had a few bumps in the recovery road but I'm still content with my decision. I did this to be alive longer for my children. I chose to have one more child when I learned and decided I could use my breasts for what they were for. Nursing! I still have one final surgey But I'm glad to be alive. And I'm glad I'm still running and healthy. I'm not really considered a survivor. But I AM A PREVIVOR!
