Racisim still and Issue in South Dakota Schools?
A Native American student, Hepi Flute Player, resideing in Brown Hall at South Dakota State Universities campus was faced with a unnerveing message written on the bathroom mirror on the morning of October 3rd.
The message was a clear: “Praire Niggers go back to the Rez” with room numbers listed — one of them his.
“All I wanted to do when I saw the vandalism was go home. I told my RA about it and didn’t report it to UPD myself. What upsets me the most, though, is that they tried to clean it immediately, but I got a picture of it before they did.” said Flute Player.
SDSU is working with the students of Brown Hall. “We’re going to respond, and we encourage students to be clear that this is not acceptable," said Jeff Hale, one of the staff with SDSU's res. life.
