    Celebration of martyrs crowd gathered in the sanctuary

     
    Faithful Catholics attended the closing schedule for the week of commemoration in memory of the martyrs and Cunhaú Uruaçu in São Gonçalo do Amarante, metropolitan region of Natal, Brazil. With Masses in the chapel of the sanctuary, presentation of folk groups and a self theater on the main stage of the site, attracted a huge crowd coming from all parts of Rio Grande do Norte. A show of Father Antonio Maria, took a much larger number of devotees in this year's event. The religious ceremony ended with a Mass of the fiftieth anniversary of the Movement Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the monument Uruaçu celebrated by the Archbishop of Natal, Bishop Jaime Vieira Rocha. The territory-are gonçalense was bathed with a lot of blood when on October 3, 1645, occurred the Uruaçu Massacre, where 28 Christians were killed by Indians and Dutch soldiers. In honor of killing a monument was erected in the town of Uruaçu occurred near where martyrdom, called "Monument to the Martyrs", which opened on 05 December 2000, attended by approximately 15 thousand people, including many church authorities and government. Place covering an area of two acres, was donated by the family Verissimo, owner of the farm. The monument was designed by architect Francisco Soares Junior, having a capacity of 20 thousand pilgrims. Behind the stage is a panel measuring 30 meters. The monument is Chaplain Father Murilo Antonio de Paiva. On 03 October is state holiday in commemoration of Martyrs Day Uruaçu and Cunhaú, according to Law No. 8.913/2006. Photos: Adrovando Claro
