    I wish this was a bookstore

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     markpel took this photo of an abandoned building on Hauptstrasse Street in the Berlin Borough of Schöneberg and says he wishes it was a bookstore that housed a coffeehouse. "I think a little bookstore with a tea or coffeehouse could be a necessary place where inhabitants of the quarter could meet each other," he says. "I don't live in this quarter, but there aren't many places like bookstores here and people have to drive somewhere else."

    The location used to be a disco or night club on Hauptstrasse in the Berlin Borough of Schoeneberg.

     

    Just around the corner, President John F. Kennedy held his famous speech proclaiming: Ich bin ein Berliner - I am a Berliner, on the steps of Rathaus Schoeneberg (City Hall) during the Cold War in June 26 1963.
