The new American job: Part time?

One Part Time Job? Try Four.

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     cerridwen83 works for two separate historical societies in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She works part-time as a archivist in order to gain more experience so she can enter graduate school where she can study to become a full-time historical archivist. She says she knew she would have to work part-time in this field in order to gain experience. 'History jobs are incredibly hard to break into,' she said. 'At the end of the year, I will have to leave my employment with one of the historical societies,' she said. 'I believe this is directly related to the economy. Instead of donating money to local historical institutions, people are holding on to their money just in case they lose their jobs.' The museum she works for does not generate income and so there is no way for the museum to pay her for her work. But she says she will continue to volunteer there for the experience.

Are you working a part-time job because of the current economy? Send your story to CNN iReport.

    But I'm not complaining.

I work a total of 5 jobs, or 60 hours per week on average.

My four part-time jobs are to help me to gain experience in the field I would like to go into. It's really hard to break into the field without experience, so I'm gaining it any way I can. I started out by volunteering, and was eventually hired.

I'm planning on going to graduate school in January, so I will have to cut back a little then to concentrate on my studies. But I will probably continue to work at least 40 hours per week.

Sure, I'm tired a lot, and don't get to see my husband as much as I would like, but I'm paving the way for a fantastic career someday.
