    Part time Story Reader

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     HRH says after losing her big corporate job a few years ago, she decided to start working part-time as a story reader at local schools in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She says at this point in her life working part-time actually works for her. She has more time for her family and is in a financially stable situation because her husband is employed full-time. But she says there a draw backs to working part-time. 'This job would not be enough to support to my family. The pay is good, but there are no benefits and very few hours,' she said. She says ideally she would like to be self employed.

    I've been working part time now for 5 years with the local library as an outreach story reader. I travel to local daycares and headstarts and we have a 30 minute story time. I enjoy it as much as the children, we share books, songs, fingerplays and laughter. Prior to this I was employed by the local telephone company for 25 years. When my department closed I was was not old enough to retire but thanks to good investing and a still employed husband I was able to just bow out for a while. I like the part time job because you have more time for "living", when my husband says lets get out of town for a few days, I'm already there! The only drawback is that no benefits or insurance usually go with part time work.
