The Largest Tug Of War In The World

Okinawa might be a small island but it's the home to the largest tug of war in the world. The rope which weighs in at over 40 metric tons requires over 15,000 people to pull it back and forth.

The annual event, which takes place in the middle of Okinawa's main highway, is not only a fun and interesting time for guests young and old but it is also a reflection of many cultural aspects of Okinawa's past and present. The event dates back to the 1600's and is meant to pray for the prosperity of Okinawa and good health for all people.
