    Angela Merkel's Visit

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter mroesler8, from Minnesota, captured this image of crowds in Athens, Greece, protesting against the visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. "It seemed like a fairly tense atmosphere," she said. "The main road near our apartment was absolutely deserted, seems like everything shut down for the day. Someone told us to use extreme caution and to leave as soon as possible, which we did." Many Greeks are angered by tough austerity measures imposed by the European Union and see Merkel as the main enforcer of such measures.
    - sarahbrowngb, CNN iReport producer

Peaceful demonstrations in Syntagma Square today as German chancellor Angela Merkel visits Athens. Austerity measures have tensions high, and extra police force is very evident. Our walk through the National Gardens by our school and the stroll to the local grocery both mean encounters with police and barricades. Preventing violent outbreaks seems to be the aim here.
