Flooding in Oguta, Nigeria: Part II
On October 5th 2002, the story about the extensive flooding that ravaged parts of Oguta Community in Imo State, Nigeria was carried on the CNN iReport. Since that day, several governmnent officials at the Federal level as well as high ranking officials of the Imo State government have visited the town on a fact finding tour to determine the extent of damage and find the best ways to assist displaced residents. They promised to act expeditiously in order to restore the commercial activities in the Oguta and in so doing bring hope to those whose livelihoods have been put on hold because of the flooding. It is a welcome development but the residents do not want all the efforts drowned in government bureaucracy and red tape. They are, however, holding out hope and so far have been their brothers' keepers.
