The Inspiration of We Can Be Heroes

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     JDAlady photographed these images of the We Can Be Heroes art exhibit in the Time Warner Center, on October 8. She enjoys visiting art exhibitions and thought that the We Can Be Heroes exhibit would be cool to see before the start of New York Comic Con. She says the space used for the event was open to the public which meant that more people could learn about the charity's cause.
    - Jamescia, CNN iReport producer

In a superhero liar next to the CNN bldg, the art exhibit by DC Entertainment titled 'Darkness & Light' gave a prequel to NYComicCon. “Inspired by Heroes & Villains, Hope & Heroism,” this public exhibition displays various art mediums and will be housed at the Time Warner Center until Sunday, October 14th. It is a sight where most viewers are drawn to linger as childhood heroes make their mark with this contribution.

We Can Be Heroes is a giving campaign organization that endeavors to raise awareness and funds for the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa. “Using the iconic Justice League characters from DC Entertainment - Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg, they aim to raise funds for three humanitarian aid organizations working in Africa: Save the Children, International Rescue Committee, and Mercy Corps. DC Entertainment will match donations up to $1 million in total donations, and up to 75% of the purchase price from products will go directly to saving lives.” http://www.wecanbeheroes.org/

Some of the pieces specifically highlight heroic characteristics of strength, integrity and compassion. One photographic installation, with scenes of work accomplished in Africa, gives a personal view of the goals and obstacles that We Can Be Heroes face. Each piece of art relays the poignant human factor associated with gallant superhero aspirations. They project a real life rescue, a true beacon of hope.

As New York Comic Con begins its frantic weekend, this alcove of still life heroes provides a moment of peace with its emblem of justice for all.
