Our Father's Business
Very disturbing are the news reports of the actions of our youth. Evident in this is the apparent lack of respect for the human life. More andy more children are being charged with murder of other serious crimes. The persons locked away in prisons didn’t come into this world as adults. Each person is someone’s child, born with the prospect for living a God fearing and just life.
How we nurture their potential directly influences the choices our children make in life. The things we as parents place value on are the same things that help our children determine their self worth or lack thereof.
We question why our children have lost their way. Why there is rampant disrespect for elders, people in authority and even the Church itself. Our children are being raised without a healthy fear of authority and even worse-without the fear of God. We live in a world where, for many, God is no longer the center of our Universe. We question why such turmoil exists in the world. We point fingers at the government, neighbors and schools.
We point fingers at celebrities who we claim have so much influence on our children’s thought process.
We don’t teach our kids about God. We don’t take them to church. We think it is robbery to have our children subjected to prayers. It is an affront to some when reference is made to God on money or in government. We turn right around and cry out for this same God in the midst of our despair.
I am reminded of the children of Israel. When will we learn? When will we acknowledge that the same God who led the Israelites from bondage is the same God, who flooded the Earth? The same God, who gave us His only Son, is the same God who slayed the firstborn of the Egyptians. We cannot continue to dwell in this cavern of darkness and despair. These are desperate times. We must take back from the Devil that which he seeks to forever claim. This stronghold must be broken. We must first start at the beginning.
In the beginning, there was God.
How could we allow ourselves to forget the most important foundation of our very being? God made us in His image. Because of this we are intelligent beyond our imagination. Sadly, we have fallen into the trap of outsmarting ourselves. We tamper with genetics. We attempt to recreate life in tubes. We discount the works of God with “proven” science. We attempt to debunk miracles. We even try to prove that God does not exist! How then can we wonder why our children are lost? We are all children of God, yet we are lost. Yes, even you who claim He does not exist. The blind cannot lead the blind.
Some people have declared that they “found” God or Jesus. Neither God nor Jesus was ever lost. The Spirit of God travels beside you even during your hours of unbelief. He is in the very air you breathe. He is present in the rustling of trees. He is that little tickle at the nape of your neck. He is that voice that whispers “Don’t do that”. He is patient. He fulfills all your needs. Someone wrote: God provides food for the birds, but He does not place it in their nests. The same applies to our faith in God. He is waiting, but we must seek to know Him.
This journey of New Beginnings upon which we are about to embark, there will be seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Once we begin down this path, we will awaken the sleeping giant. As long as we do nothing the Devil is content. We will reclaim what is rightfully the Lord’s. We will take back our children, soul by soul. Many may not come willingly. Many will fight against that which is good. I believe that even though a person may live an ungodly life, the soul still recognizes its Creator.
When God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, he provided instruction in regards to which trees they could not eat of. Adam and Eve were given the opportunity to choose to obey God. He could simply have not placed those trees in the garden at all. God does not force His will upon us.
We must choose to follow the narrow road to God. Just as a farmer toils in the heat in order to enjoy the fruits of his labor at harvest, so must we work to bring people to God so that we each can enjoy our stay in the House of many Mansions.
We must be about Our Father's Business.
