Fortress of Karababa in Chalkida
The Fortress of Karababa is one of the attractions of Chalkida city. Located on the Viotas hill, the castle was built by the Turks in 1684 to protect the city from the Venetians.It is strategically located as it overlooks the strait of Euripus and the city of Chalkida.
Chalkida city is the capital of the prefecture of Evia. It lies on the North-East off mainland Greece.It is 70 kms from Athens.
A museum and the Church of the Prophet Elia are within the compound.
