IMAGINE PEACE TOWER - John Lennon (from Yoko Ono)
The Imagine Peace Tower is a memorial to John Lennon from his widow, Yoko Ono. It consists of a tall "tower of light", projected from a white stone monument that has the words "Imagine Peace" carved into it in 24 languages. These words, and the name of the tower, are a reference to Lennon's peace anthem, "Imagine".
The Tower consists of 15 searchlights with prisms that act as mirrors, reflecting the column of light vertically into the sky from a 10-metre wide wishing well. On a clear night it appears to reach over 4000m. The power for the lights is provided by Iceland's unique geo-thermal energy grid and uses approximately 75 kW of power. Buried underneath the light tower are upward of 500,000 written wishes that Ono gathered over the years in another project, called "Wish Trees".
The tower lit is projected on sky every year from 9 October, Lennon's birthday, through 8 December, the date he was shot.
Construction of the tower started on 9 October 2006 when Ono dedicated the location, and it was officially unveiled on the same date in 2007. The ceremony was broadcast internationally to numerous television networks. In attendance with Ono were son Sean Lennon, Ringo Starr, and Olivia Harrison, widow of George Harrison, and Olivia's son Dhani Harrison. Paul McCartney was invited, but could not attend due to a court case.
Yoko Ono said on the day of the inauguration “the tower was the best thing that she and John had ever done“.
This year was one special, becuase Yoko Ono awarded five peace awards in ceremony at Harpa concert and conference hall in Reykjavík .Every 2 years a few people who made notable contributions to peace and equality are chosen for „LENNONONO Grant for Peace awards“ .

Happy Birthday ! Jon and thank you for your beautiful words :
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one
