    Your Vote Is Magic!

My name is Lyn Dillies and I am a full time professional illusionist. Ever since I can remember, my late father instilled in me a sense of civic duty. He was very involved in local politics and taught me early on how important voting is and that every person’s vote counts.

Fast forward to 2007, I knew the presidential election was going to be a major one and I couldn’t help but think how passionate my father would be about it. His words kept echoing in my mind about being concerned about voter apathy and he would always stress to me that people together can create change. Suddenly, I had a brainstorm. For the 2008 Presidential election I would conjure up a massive scale illusion to magically make the two live mascots (a donkey and an elephant) appear out of thin air. I would call the illusion and my public service campaign, Your Vote Is Magic!, because that’s truly what I believe. By voting, we all have the power to make a difference and to make our voices heard.

I have since written a book called Your Vote Is Magic! How a Donkey, an Elephant and an Illusionist Are Making Voters Appear, to tell my story of training the animals, all of the obstacles I encountered along the way of producing the illusion and most importantly about the history and significance of voting. The book and video are part of my one woman mission to educate and inspire students about becoming responsible citizens and raising awareness that voting is a sacred privilege.

This video is of the illusion I created and it’s powerful message that I pray people will share with one another. It’s intended to remind us that it’s not the hand that writes a law, nor the hand that vetoes a law, nor the hand that wields a courtroom gavel. It’s the hand that casts the ballot.

I am dedicating this video to the memory of my father for always being my moral and civic compass and to the men and women in uniform who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend and preserve our right to vote.
