    Questions for Candy Crowley

    Health Insurance Refom

In 2008, my 10 y/o son was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. It's an incurable disease that requires daily oral chemotherapy meds.

From 2008 until Health Insurance Reform was passed, I received monthly letters & phone calls from my ins. company advising of the amount that my son's "lifetime maximum cap" was being depleted due to the cost of medical care & oral chemotherapy meds.

I also received phone calls from the insurance company reps wanting to shuffle my son into THEIR OWN pharmacy program where I'd have to re-order meds on a 6 to 8 week basis.

When I asked what would happen if I forgot to timely re-order my son's daily medicine - or if the medicine suddenly changed, they'd tell me my son would have to wait another 7 - 10 days for a new order to be sent to me. That would mean 7 - 10 days of no medicine at all which would critically impact my son if his CML suddenly advanced to the accelerated or blast phase of the disease.

WHAT WILL IMMEDIATELY HAPPEN TO THE LIFETIME MAXIMUM CAPS WHEN HEALTH INSURANCE REFORM IS REPEALED??? WILL INSURANCE COMPANIES BE ABLE TO DENY MY SON'S COVERAGE, DENY CHANGING MEDICATION, DENY TREATMENT???

My son is now 14 yrs old. He is on my health insurance currently. He has CML as a pre-existing condition. I anticipate that during his lifetime, he'll have other conditions that develop from his CML due to the toxicity of the meds he takes. I expect that the oral chemotherapy will damage his other organs. I suspect that the pain medicines he needs EVERY DAY will also damage his organs over time.

If he survives and outgrows the age to stay on my insurance OR I become unemployed and he is no longer insured HOW WILL HE BE PROTECTED FROM BEING DENIED INSURANCE? Can he be denied for a pre-existing condition? Can the related and anticipated conditions BE DENIED because they are natural off shoots of the underlying cancer??

I heard Mr. Romney speak and say that when his wife was diagnosed with ms that the FIRST thing he did was find the best medical care possible. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO PEOPLE LIKE ME (SINGLE MOM WITH LIMITED RESOURCES) AND MY SON WHO FACE EQUALLY DEVASTATING DIAGNOSES?

HOW WILL EACH CANDIDATE PROTECT PEOPLE FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANIES???????

On the "death panels" under Obamacare - DOES EITHER CANDIDATE HAVE A POSITION WITH RESPECT TO INSURANCE COMPANY CLAIMS ADJUSTER DENIALS OF TREATMENT & MEDICAL CARE FOR PATIENTS.

Frankly, I'm so much more worried about the insurance company's abilities to DENY CLAIMS, DENY TREATMENTS, DENY MEDICAL NECESSITIES. Nobody's talking about the insurance company's responsibility to patients.

MAYBE IT'S THE REALLY BIG LOBBY THAT INSURANCE COMPANIES HAVE IN D.C.

Ms. Crowley, please address these important issues with the candidates. My son's LIFE actually does depend upon it. You may contact me at any time. Thanks.
