Red Bull Stratos Mission Roswell New Mexico Successful

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     josh88201 watched as Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner launched off in a balloon-lifted capsule from Roswell, New Mexico, on Sunday morning. 'I was extremely excited and happy to see the balloon being released and begin the ascent to the targeted height. And when he was safe on the ground, I was so excited I almost cried because I was so happy that this mission was successful,' said the 22-year-old from Roswell.

Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner broke the speed of sound, at one point hitting Mach 1.24, according to a team official, during his record-setting jump from 128,000 feet

preliminary figures showed Felix Baumgartner reached a maximum speed of 833.9 miles per hour. The speed is equivalent to Mach 1.24 – faster than the speed of sound. Felix Baumgartner was lifted 128,097 feet into the air by a 700 foot tall stratospheric helium balloon before jumping, with only a pressurized suit to protect him from the bitter cold and pressure . Audiences watched his fall by the Red Bull Stratos Livestream. After about 5 minutes of falling, he pushed for his parachute, eventually coming down safely about four minutes later
