Welcome to the fair!
Flying through the air with my legs dangling on the swings brought me back to childhood memories in the Midwest. After riding the Ferris wheel and whipping around on the Sizzler, I was ready for more.
The last big fair I'd been to was the Wisconsin state fair when I was a kid. There were some similarities, minus cheddar-flavored everything. I noshed on my favorite fall treat, a caramel apple, and tried a "healthier" version of a corn dog -- a pretzel-wrapped hot dog!
We took in some agricultural activities like visiting cows, pigs and horses and later peered at beautiful blooms and plants.
But, my favorite 4-H display was the collection of scarecrows built by children. I even stopped to pose with President Abraham Lincoln the scarecrow!
Hours of festivities, food and fun later, we retreated to the city, a bit more sun-kissed and smiley than we arrived. The fair was over, but there's always next year!
