A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook Antigua Guatemala on Monday

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook Guatemala on Monday. The quake's epicenter was located near the poor Central American country's Pacific coast, 47 miles southwest of the capital, Guatemala City, the USGS said.

As I sat in my backyard in Antigua Guatemala you could tell this was going to be a shaker. The quake hit fast and shook our colonial home hard. Unlike the earthquake earlier this years off the coast of Mexico along the Guatemala Boarder this earthquake only lasted a few seconds.

In walking around Antigua Guatemala after the earthquake we say no signed of damage of any kind. In making calls to friends in Guatemala City the only news they had to reports was that large building swayed and shook.
