Bunker explodes at Camp Minden, rocks multiple parishes

CAMP MINDEN, La. – Authorities in Webster Parish have attributed Monday night’s extremely loud booming sound, which rocked at least two neighboring parishes, to an underground bunker explosion on the grounds of Camp Minden. The camp is an operable Louisiana National Guard site, which hosts a number of businesses that house explosives.
Authorities are in the process of determining which company is associated with the bunker.
According to Sheriff Gary Sexton, the self-contained bunker explosion occurred near L-2 at Camp Minden, close to Dorcheat, just south of I-20. As a result the doors of the bunker blew. No injuries have been reported. Damages at the scene were limited to mainly timber debris.
Sexton said that helicopters remain on standby as a fly over may be necessary to assess the full extent of the aftermath.
