Wave of arrests in north-east Iran
The Bahai Faith was born in Iran in the 19th century, and is Iran's largest non-Muslim religious minority today. It has been persecuted and suppressed in Iran since its birth. Since Iran's 1979 revolution, Bahais have been barred from higher education and from working in many economic sectors, as part of a government policy intended to confine them to an underclass.
