I've been on a journey to be fit by 40 since March of 2011, and was featured in an August 2012 story as part of CNN's ongoing Fit Nation series, "Why you really should get 'Fit By 40'" http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/31/health/fitness-before-forty-weight-loss/index.html?iref=allsearch. I have always been overweight, ate poorly, and led a sedentary life. As a high achiever in other aspects of my life, it was frustrating to me that my weight was out of control. Although it was frustrating I did little to take matters into my own hands, until I changed my mindset. I began to see my bad habits: both nutrition and lack of exercise, in terms of addiction. That shift in mindset has been the key to my success thus far. In my professional life, as Product Director of Data Analytics at Zywave, Inc., the maker of software solutions for Insurance and Financial Advisors, I have consulted with hundreds of brokers on analyzing claims data and constructing programs to help folks do just what I had been unwilling to do, lead healthier lifestyles and improve their own health. In my personal life, I saw my son (with similar genetic predispositions to my own) take on many of my unhealthy behaviors. The time had come. I was going ready myself to enter my 40s on my terms, being fit! Over the last 84 weeks I have lost 103 pounds and gained a personally unprecedented level of fitness. I would’ve laughed at the notion of considering participating in a triathlon two years ago. I admit that the notion stirs up a little anxiety today, but what better way to celebrate turning 40 than to participate in this triathlon journey with CNN and Dr. Sanjay Gupta!
