    Big Tex before the fire

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     SSpring photographed "Big Tex" at the Texas State Fair on October 17, just days before the statue burned down in an electrical fire. She says she was saddened to learn about what happened to the statue, saying she was shocked and heartbroken. She says when she captured this photo she could not help but take in how majestic the statue looked. 'Big Tex looked glorious at night with all the lights trained on him. He is iconic. He is the presence at the Fair, he is the fair to me,' she said.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

I took a photograph of Big Tex Wednesday night, Oct 17, 2012. This is what he looked like 2 days ago. I'm very saddened at the loss of Big Tex - he and I came into the world the same year. I've been visiting Big Tex my entire life. I'm glad to know that he will be rebuilt and make his debut at next year's State Fair of Texas.
