Autumn leaves 2012 |
As Autumn Leaves Start to Fall
Every year we see the spectacle of autumn as it closes in around us, and yet, the beauty of fall is just a dying leaf in its struggle to hold on to its last drop of glucose, the substance, that along with sunlight and chlorophyll work to feed and nourish the leaf and make trees green. Once the cooler days begin and the sun loses its grip on warming our part of world, photosynthesis, the method a tree uses to make its food- begins to slow down and the leaves start their beautiful descent into a technicolor dream world. And while a biological explanation may answer the question as to why leaves turn their beautiful color; few answers can tell us why this season causes such a stir in the emotions of a human heart, and evokes the passionate memories of one’s life, more than fall. For this reason, I turn to a camera as a wide-eyed spectator, to witness in all its majesty once again, as autumn leaves start to fall. Photographs: Long Island and The Catskills, Upstate New York.
