PLEASE STAND UP AGAINST BULLIES
My son Daevergio Graves was forced to defend himself against another student while taking the Modesto Unified School District bus home from school.There were other kids who witnessed as well as the driver of that bus route.my son was punched with extreme force right in his eye.The punch was so extreme it left a black bruise around his eye.my son was seated and the kid told my son he had to move.When my son refused that is when he punched him.my son then defended himself by returning a punch.My son did not continue to with blows he simply defended himself as any human would do.A normal reflect the body does when trying to defend itself.By law a person being attacked as a right to defend in a situation of physical abuse!Instead of the bus driver taken control of her bus by using authority in her voice or calling for some help over the cb-4 radio she physically interacted with children on the bus.I have 2 other smaller kids wo also take the same bus route to and from school.My youngest son Anthony Graves tried to make his way to the area where this altercation when the driver forcefully pushed him down in a seat as well as kicking a young girls feet out of the path.She should have followed the proper procedure and guidelines for something like this.She did not!When my sons got in they told me what happened and i instantly contacted the school and scheduled a meeting between everybody involved as well as the parents.The following day we all attended the meeting and expressed how or what we should do to get this addressed and resolved.During the meeting the driver of the bus refuse to sit any longer and dismissed herself.How can she just walk out when she is the only adult who witnessed what actually happened that day.She wrote the report and signed it and presented it to the school so she should be apart of the meeting.In the rport she banned my son from her bus route and also put a bad report about him on file.My son has never once had a bad report on his school file.This record will follow him the rest of his schooling.Not only is it unfair it has set a bad impression towards my kids thinking that all students are treated equally.My son was embarrassed and now feels he can get treated like this and nothing will be resolved.I am so upset and disappointed about the conclusion of it all that i decided to contact the NAACP.We plan on getting to the core and destroy kids being bullied at Modesto Ca Hart Ransom Elementary School.Not only for the sake of my kids who has been bullied from the first day of school but for all the children who are scared to stand up for themselves.Love,caring,patients and a voice to fight back is just the beginning.
