Big Tex Time Lapse Video
- Jareen, CNN iReport producer
This is my time lapse video of Big Tex at the State Fair of Texas. Big Tex was lifted into place on Monday, September 24, 2012. Big Tex was two days shy of being done for the fair season when he caught fire around 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2012.
The whole process of lifting Big Tex into place takes 30-40 minutes. Big Tex is raised from the ground and then the wheels attached at the bottom of the legs are removed. He is then lifted to his perch at Big Tex Circle. The legs are bolted to the base. There are four guide cables attached at his waist.
The electrical wiring that controls Big Tex's movement and speaking runs up his right side. A worker can be seen going up Big Tex's pant leg.
The boots are divided into front and back halves. In the video the crew can be seen trying to put Big Tex's left boot on his right foot. They quickly figure it out.
