Is PETA really interested in animal welfare?

It seems that PETA is only interested in lining their own pocket's. Take for instance, the cancellation of the tv show Animal Practice for which they claim to be responsible, but where were they when Pirates of the Caribbean was being filmed?

Did they accept a payoff from Disney Studios?

Were the producers of Animal Practice unable to come up with an amount  large enough to satisfy them?

Perhaps they should be the subject of a criminal investigation.
