After many questions from the public, Phipps uploaded a YouTube video in May 2012 explaining the display. 'You say it's racism. I say it's not. Absolutely not. Had we been hanging people in effigy when George Bush was president, I would have hung him, no problem. It wouldn't have been a problem at all.'
Dixon only captured a photo of Obama’s effigy and not the entire display because, 'It was very disturbing,' she said. 'It's fine if you have your political views, but the insensitivity of seeing our commander in chief handing from a noose. It was the lack of sensitivity.' And, what made it worse was the audience seeing the display: 'There were little children seeing this. They know Obama’s face and the parents having to explain what this means, they don’t need to be exposed to certain things.'
