    Maria Amor: Self-made entrepreneur

She's the brain-beauty type and much more. Maria Amor Torres is CEO of FOSAAC TV; president, We Care For The World; founder/CEO, Exotifit For Humanity; CEO/president, Exotifit International Inc.; CEO/President, MLT Enterprises; co-founder, Empower Group of Companies; co-founder, Philippine Institute of Language, Arts & Culture; board member, Council on Trade and Investment for Filipino Americans (COTIFA); and member, Cambridge Who's Who.

A stellar achievement is her ability to actively involve people of dozens of nationalities in her events. And by events I mean not only our ethnic community but those of international spheres as well. In May she had the Sheriff's Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center and last month, the 7th Annual Global Trade Expo and Investment Seminar and Venture Funding held at the Anaheim Convention Center. She also produced the 2nd Annual Global Independence Day, the Global Achievement Awards and Miss Globe Ambassador Pageant at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Last year her events included the Mr. & Ms. Perfect Creatures Pageant and the yearly DARE TO BARE and Global Independence Day. There was a Miss Exoti-Lady World Pageant farther back. How much more engaged can one be in community affairs? Her Exotifit group of companies includes the Exoti-World Magazine, Cold Heat News (online magazine) and Exoti-Water. Her motto: "I'm a doer, not a talker."

Dioni and I kidded her once that she seemingly doesn't sleep anymore and the FilAm entrepreneur-cum-celebrity admitted that being active is what she wants most. She's not your kind of passive lady executive. She is a certified aerobics and ballroom dance instructor, gyrates with the exoti-ladies, produces, directs and coordinates events, sings, choreographs, design clothes, conduct interviews, models and many more. And she still has time for COTIFA, the Woodland Hills-Tarzana and FilAm chambers of commerce and for a pet charity helping children who live near a garbage dump near her hometown.

She's Ms. Asia Galaxy 2010 and among her more recent citations include the Outstanding Filipino-American Awardee and Elizabeth Taylor Beauty and Humanitarian Award. She had her business degree in the homeland where she was also Ms. Luzon and Ms. Southern Tagalog for 1995, Ms. Rizal 1994, the Girl Scout Of The Year in 1984, 1985 and 1986 as well as a recipient of the Gerry Roxas Leadership Award in 1986.

DARE TO BARE 5 will be on October 25, just a few days from now, starting at 7 pm at the Phoenicia Restaurant, Glendale. Being a pre-Holloween affair, expect a transylvanian taste of friendly frights and costumes of all kinds. Or no costume at all, that's what bare is. No, not really that extreme. Prudence dictates that everyone respects everyone. What's certain is that there will be fun and camaraderie and networking for everyone.

The event will feature DJ Farzad of DANCE2THIS and DJ Nasir Rao of Desi Beat Entertainment. Guest performers: Marneen Lynn Fields, Ram Tasildar and Texas' Sharon Robbins aka Sand Man and many more. It will be hosted by Jesse Jam Miranda, Jaime Monroy, Sara Cromwell (Ms. Globe Ambassador 2012), Sable Ashley Jonsson (Miss Globe Ambassador 2012 1st Runner-up), Brittany Monique Grimes (Miss Globe Ambassador 2012 2nd Runner-up), and Jennipha Lauren Nielsen (Ms. California World International). -- By Lilia Rabe Grava
