    Eagle Hunters of Kazak Country

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     konacraig photographed eagle hunters in Oglii County, Mongolia, at the 2012 Golden Eagle Festival in Western Mongolia. He says the festival is held annually in October, and eagle hunters from surrounding villages attend the two day competition. 'This is unlike anything in the U.S. It isn't a circus or other professional event. These are nomads who live off the land and who have done this for many years,' he said. 'This is their tradition. They are proud of what they do, their culture and their heritage.'

    We attended the 2012 Golden Eagle Festival in Western Mongolia. 70 nomads from up to 100 kilometers attended the event. They displayed the hunting abilities of their Golden Eagles over 2 days of events. The crowd mostly local people numbered about 2000 people. The eagles are raised from birth to hunter for foxes, wolves and other prey and each each the nomads assemble for this festival.

    These photos showcase some of the nomads and their eagles.
