    Peace rally turns bloody

“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter” George Washington. A quote reflects Kuwaiti’s peace rally, which was organized yesterday near Kuwait Towers to refuse the government changes in the electoral system. The participants reached 150 thousand, representing %15 of people, which exceeds the numbers of demonstrators in the last Egyptian revolution “%10 of Egyptians demonstrated”. It is worth to mention, that people were supposed to meet as groups in many different places, before a caravan start to gather all groups in the “Change Square”.

Surprisingly, Special Forces attacked people immediately after they start to gather. As a result, the crowed was directed to Kuwait Towers as plan b. Stun grenades and rubber bullets were launched at protesters “including women and old men” and more than 100 were injured. They also detained some people awkwardly, in chili's  where some injured people hide. In addition, more than 300 men were arrested tell this moment without any clear chargers.

Police prevented former parliament members of attending this huge event and arrested some. Special Forces make it even worse, by not cooperating with Kuwait’s Human Rights monitors, preventing them and many people from reaching the rally. They also attacked the medical staff while helping the injured. A doctor said through twitter “they attacked me, I shouted I’m a doctor let me help my patient, but they kept provoking me”.

Finally, I must shed light on the Ministry of interior’s misstatement about the rally. The ministry accused people of assaulting and attacking the Special Forces. The ministry used threatening language that was rejected by people and made them even angrier. As a reaction, many Kuwaitis are until this moment expressing their anger through twitter.

Kuwaiti’s mouthpiece says as Martin Luther King once said “Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent”.
