The pilgrimage has proved to be fatal & tragic in past on many counts. Still its most pious & desired for among muslims.
Women are not allowed to go alone on Hajj pilgrimage.
THe incidents of fire and collapse of buildings have claimed many lives since ages. December 1975 --- A gas cylinder exploded claiming lives of 200 pilgrims. in 1997 over 300 pilgrims were burnt alive. Now tents are fire-proof.
in 1979 around 500 militants occupied Grand Mosque. Around 300 lives lost in the operation. 1987; Iranian pilgrims rioted claiming 400 lives.
However, its considered to be a pious death.
