    A piece of Italian history - Legio I Italica

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter giannantonio captured these images of Italian men wearing painstakingly recreated ancient Roman costumes who perform mock battles to educate visitors in his home province of Reggio Emilia about life in ancient Roman times. "I think these people should be rewarded for their endurance of customs and habits that are now really uncomfortable!" he said. Although only participating in a mock fight, the participants have the tense, determined faces of men about to experience true battle. Our iReporter says he did not ask them to pose in any way, they appear to have naturally assumed their roles as soldiers.

    Italy has a social and political history more than a thousand years, though guided by forward-looking people could be a rich nation only fully exploiting tourism. Fortunately there are people who believe in history and its revivals, as these people that I photographed while evoking ancient soldiers - Legionnaires - of ancient Rome. Each of them is a Roman soldier, perfectly reconstructed on the basis of historical documents and each person brings into the metal armor their thoughts, their ideas, their emotions. I tried to photograph people, not the soldier.
