Filipinos celebrate canonization of second Filipino saint

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     With canonization ceremonies officiated by Pope Benedict XVI, Sherbien captured these photos in part of the celebration in Manila, Philippines, of the teen martyr Pedro Calungsod who became the second Filipino saint on Sunday, October 21. The canonization also coincided with the postal offices issuing a stamp in honor of Blessed Pedro Calungsod. "Filipinos flocked to the church and they were happy and proud of having the second saint. The mood was cheerful and solemn," he says. "Even though I'm not a practicing Catholic, I was struck and got a bit teary eyed."
    - Anika3, CNN iReport producer

Blessed Pedro Calungsod is the second Filipino saint proclaimed by Vatican. A thanksgiving mass was held in almost all churches in the Philippines and a limited collection on Blessed Calungsod's stamp was also released in postal offices.
