Winnsboro, La. – Authorities in Louisiana are continuing to stitch together information into a possible hate crime in which the alleged attackers set 20-year-old Sharmeka Moffitt on fire and wrote the letters “KKK” and the “N” word on her vehicle Sunday at a Winnsboro, La. park.

As a result, the black, Franklin Parish female remains hospitalized at a Shreveport, La. hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

“We don’t really have a whole lot of information right now…no witnesses and we haven’t been able to question her (Moffitt) due to her medical status,” said Trooper Albert Paxton, Louisiana State Police spokesperson.

According to Paxton, it took police less than one minute to respond to the 911 call placed by the victim to authorities.

“She told police that three males wearing white hats or hoodies had set her on fire,” said Paxton. Authorities say Moffitt was unable to identify the race of her attackers.

Paxton added that Moffitt’s car, which was also at the park had been written on using some type of paste.

“KKK was written on the hood of the car with the “N” word written underneath,” Paxton said.

As of this afternoon no suspects had been identified. The case has not been confirmed as a hate crime.However, it has been confirmed that Moffitt was not wearing an Obama shirt when attacked, as some reports indicated.

The investigation is ongoing as a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Louisiana State Police, Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Winnsboro Police Department.
