    Why are you an independent?

    Why I'm an independent

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     rcantillo, 37, identified more with the Democratic Party in his early life, but he started considering himself an independent in 2008. 'The 2008 presidential race, that’s when I really started getting involved in politics and trying to understand what’s going on in Washington. It’s just unfortunate that there’s a lot of gridlock and people are playing both sides,' he said. He’s voted for George W. Bush, John Kerry and most recently, President Barack Obama, in the last few elections.

While his 'progressive values' indicate he leans more to the left, rcantillo said he finds 'faults' with both parties. He will be voting for Obama come Election Day, but he’s not enthusiastic about it. 'If there were another independent candidate out there, someone who had a realistic plan for the country, who could be straightforward with us and provide simple answers and give us a realistic approach to governing, I would probably go that direction. I'm picking the lesser of two evils come this election,' he said. Are you an independent? Share your story here.
