This iReport is part of an assignment:
Why are you an independent? |

Why wouldn't I be Independent?
Many gangs are not fighting for social justice, or to provide protection for each other from undue discrimination directed at them from the outside world. Many gangs have roots that started growing with great intentions; education for their cultural peers, protection from biased legislation, and saftey in numbers- just to name a few.
Our current voting platform leaves zero real world chance for anyone other than a Democrat or Republican to obtain the votes needed in order to occupy the Presidential office.
Many years ago the Southern Democrats fought very hard for their beliefs, beliefs that in some cases promoted the literal use of chains to keep down certain members of our great nation. On the other end of the spectrum there were people who fought to put basic civil rights into place, and to keep all humans out of involuntary servitude. The partisan line was not something that was blindly followed, and either belief that was held was held for a reason. Some reasoning was flawed, some was sound, however both parties fought about issues and consequences.
Today our Democratic and Republican representatives will almost never listen to an opposing representatives view on what a proposed piece of legislation will end up doing to our society.
In addition to the emblems of elephants and donkeys, our leaders are following a blind allegience to the color blue, and the color red . If the GOP has a proposal, democrats put their fingers into their ears while Democratic legislation is met with a collective moan by their Republican counterparts. Our nation is no longer looking at what content each piece of policy holds. By and large, voting is done strictly along party lines.
How can people not be independent? How can people not think of what might happen if a law is or is not passed? How can we move forward if the color of a representatives bumper sticker dictates the view that people will have of that representative? This is insanity defined.
We decry gangs, yet our highest offices are divided by colors, and locations of birth. To anyone who is not "independent" in their thought, to anyone who will not listen to what someone has to say about the benefit or detriment of our society simply because the idea comes from someone who has elephants in the background instead of donkeys; I say that you are nothing more than a gang member. Drop the partisan non-sense. You asked why I am independent; I ask; why are you not independent?
