Symbolic protest by women on the 67th anniversary of the United Nation Organization

On the 67th anniversary of the United Nation Organization a symbolic demo was held at the Karachi press club today. Speaking to the audience, Dr. Aafia’s sister and leader of the Aafia Movement - Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui said that 67 years ago United Nations was founded on this day so that there would be peace in the world. Nations would be allowed autonomy and sovereignty respected. A charter of human rights was declared and signed. But contrary to it, it is sad to say that gross violations of human rights are being done every day by the very nations who signed the document. UNO has become a toy in the hands of few beneficiaries for providing legitimacy to the unjust and criminal acts committed by the players of the International war for power. She lamented at the Muslim rulers who have been totally failed in providing protection to their citizens. She further said that Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon sleeps while thousands of Muslims are massacred and killed around the world in Palestine, Iraq & Afghanistan. He sleeps while Aafia is tortured, rendered, abducted, stripped and falsely accused; He sleeps while hundreds of women and Children are droned upon. But wakes up when America or a NATO country calls upon him. These double standards have shaken the public’s confidence in an organization designed for peace & to respect human beings as equals. She added that this will be Aafia’s 23rd Eid in American illegal custody and away from mother and children. She lamented at the Pakistani leadership for being indifferent to this bare violation of injustice. Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed and others also spoke on this occasion.
