A conclusion from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery annual meeting in the Bahamas last week: Everybody is talking about Los Angeles hair restoration clinics and centers all over the country are hearing requests for it by those patients that are doing their homework. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is creating an edge in the hair transplant industry for many reasons.

REASON #1 FUE is minimally invasive. Each follicular graft is extracted individually. Only local anesthetic is needed for the procedure to numb the area and patients go home that same day.

REASON #2 FUE offers little to no scarring. Since there is no strip being taken from the back of the scalp, there is no linear scar. And, if the procedure is performed with care, the only scarring are the small dots where the grafts were extracted in the donor area, and transplanted in the balding area. If the right amount of density is achieved, these tiny scars are covered up by your own hair.

REASON #3 FUE is the preferred method for innovative methods of follicular unit transplant, and fuels for such technologies like the ARTAS Restoration Robotics, for example.

About FUE:

Follicular Unit Extraction is a form of harvesting donor hair for transplant to the balding area. In FUE, a small circular incision is made around a follicular unit and then the units are pulled out, leaving a small hole.
