    Why are you an independent?

    Where do I fit in?

I have always voted Republican because that is how I was programmed by my family. "You don't want to pay taxes and support all the people that don't work". About 5 years ago I decided that FOX NEWS was becoming way too much and I didn't identify with those people -- they were way too angry for some reason. After watching other stations, I realized that Fox would report only half the story that I had heard on another station...the part they only wanted you to hear. Then I saw a bumper sticker that said "turn off Fox and think for yourself". I thought "wow, I am not the only one that noticed this?" This really drove me nuts and this was the start of trying to figure out who I was. Just about everyone I knew voted Republican....Conservative Orange County. I did not vote for Obama but I decided to follow him closely. I found I liked him and he did a lot of things I agreed with...then I noticed Congress--the party of NO with ObamaCare. At this time I realized that the Republicans had not attempted to implement any plan in the Bush Admin (after the Clinton Admin had tried). I realized the Repubs don't care about much, at least Obama tried and I figure if it doesn't work, change it. People have been complaining about immigration in California for 30 years and Gov't never did anything as our construction jobs were overtaken by cheap wages. I decided the Repubs liked the profit! Then I tried to figure out who these Dems were...did they all not work and just suck off the system? No, lots of intellegent and educated people were Dems, even Hollywood and even Laguna Beach where I worked. They seemed a lot "warmer" AND not so uptight - seriously. So I reregistered Democrat a few years ago. After much study and thought, I have realized that I am a fiscal conservative but NOT a social conservative so I will officially consider myself an Independent. This is where I belong....just can't identify with those right winged republicans who don't know how to compromise and are for the most part old school and onry! I want to see progress on social issues (equality), and move beyond old issues but also want to see solutions to welfare/disability type programs along with fraud in a fiscally responsible way. Now I feel like I have a home. I think more articles like this should be written -- regarding Independents. Often wonder how many others are Independents but don't realize it....bet you there is alot!
