    Diros Cave: Going Into Another World

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     opo480 was on vacation this summer in Mani, Peloponnese, when he took these beautiful photos of the Diros Caves. 'I wanted to know the feeling/or the reason why many people are interested visiting caves / or caving. Before this I never entered a cave, even a commercial cave,' he says. His second to last image was featured as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day for March 26, 2013.

    'At first I was so scared and there were so many 'ifs' playing in my mind at that time. I went solo, because my friends were afraid to go in. So, while I was inside the cave drifting into the unknown my friends spent their time enjoying the Diros bay.'

    As a long time resident of Athens, I felt I had enough of the hustle and bustle of her busy streets. This year I had the opportunity to escape to Peloponnese and visited probably the most spectacular lake cave in the world, the Diros Cave. The Diros Cave presents as galleries and variegated chambers with stalactites and stalagmites that shape imposing pillars. I ended my escape with a swim in the bay of Diros.
