Swakopmund, Namibia

Eye on Namibia |
The ends of Africa
You can have your fun just outside of Swakopmund; where white sand deserts extend straight to the Atlantic Ocean and give tourists the opportunity to sand board or take an ATV out on these perfectly soft dunes. The town itself is considered "more German than Germany," and it is a great site to see classic German architecture nestled next to sand dunes.
If you want to truly encompass the spirit of Namibia, to feel its vast lonliness and lack of population density, then rent a car and head to the Sousselvei. Ironically you will be clamoring for tourists in this empty space, but here you will see sand dunes as red, as high, and as picturesque as anywhere on earth.
It draws people back for the difference it draws to typical travel experiences. Traveling across Africa, I recommend it as a place you won't forget. Definitely a highlight of traveling.
