Election 2012: Your stories |
Presidential wedding, you are invited
This is your official invitation to the next presidential wedding “election”.
Presidential election in the United States resembles a wedding, the groom is the president and the bride is the congress and American people get drunk during this weeding from the euphoria of practicing their rights to vote expressing their opinion. The lobbyist groups represent wedding singer that get paid regardless who is the winner. Once the groom marries the bride, they file for a divorce immediately after the election and nothing get done. The only successful marriage I have seen in DC is James Carville and Mary Matalin.
Winston Churchill once said “The Americans will always do the right thing… after they’ve exhausted all the alternatives.” Ignore the media and what they all say because they represent the boss’s view who is paying their salaries and they are after rating, ignore both presidential candidates and what they promise to do during election campaign because they want to occupy 1600 Pennsylvania ave. Whether Obama or Romney will be the next president, he will face off the congress and it all depends on who has the majority in both houses and what compromise both parties can agree upon. If you don’t believe me, remember “read my lips no more Tax” from President Bush or Wall Street vs. Main Street in Obama speech… guess what, President Obama rescued Wall Street and bailout auto industry just because he knew no Republican won the presidency without Ohio… I can go on and on.
It’s unlikely in this election cycle the Republicans will lose their majority in the house and Democrats may gain few seats in the Senate (MA, MO, NV… etc). Media keeps telling us economy is # 1 issue and this may be true but the fact is both parties may have already reached an agreement to reform tax code, Medicare and defense budget and they were waiting after the election. They will pass part of it during lame duck session to avoid fiscal cleff. Therefore, neither Obama nor Romney has an edge on economic issues no matter what you hear. I will say this if you want to have your economic agenda become a law, you have to elect a representative whether Republican or Democrat so your party will have the upper hand during negotiations early next year.
Conclusion: Presidential election is important in foreign policy because the president does not need congress approval except for war. Reagan was chosen to end Iran hostage and cold war. Bush the father was chosen for first gulf war, Bush the son was chosen to finish what his Dad started. After Bush era, the Islamic world hated United States and we needed a president who someone might say he is a “Muslim” so we can come close to “”moderate Islamists”. The next president will be an indicator exactly as to how we will deal with China, Middle East and Iran. Remember Reagan never used our military to end the cold war but he was clear about Soviet danger.
