Denmark fights smuggling with new weapons
Customs officers together with new technology are now ready to fight smuggling of weapons, drugs, doping and other illegal goods wherever they cross the border lines, says head of division Hardy Vinter SKAT-Customs, Denmark. "The Scanner strategy assumes that there is not consistently significantly more staff in Customs resources than there are today. This places great demands on the methods and use of modern tools in the effort on avoiding illegal trade and smuggling..
With the scanning strategy we set a framework that enables Customs to be developed to be Europe's most efficient and competitive authority.
Postage via aircraft, ships and courier services, etc. is greatly increased due to the increase in Internet trading. These large quantities of goods can only be handled by a combination of professional risk assessment and effective use of various types of scanners. These are container scanners, pallet scanners, baggage scanners and body scanners"
