A man walks his dogs on the boardwalk

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     sarm21 drove 20 minutes to North Beach, Maryland, around 8 a.m. on Monday to see the effects of Sandy on the coastal community. 'At the time of the photos, the weather was not yet too severe. There was a heavy, constant rainfall and some wind. Water levels did not seem to be much different, and the tides were still small. In the approximate 20 minutes between taking the pictures and driving home, the amount of standing water on roads had increased,' she said. The 20-year-old lives in Huntingtown, Maryland, and is staying indoors today. 'As far as preparation, my family has a generator for our home and essential shopping has been done,' she said.

PLEASE NOTE: Sandy is an extremely dangerous storm. We urge iReporters to take caution when documenting the storm and follow local guidance. For storm information specific to your area, please monitor warnings issued by your local National Weather Service forecast office.
    - zdan, CNN iReport producer

I took a short drive up to North Beach, MD around 8:30 am to see how rough the Chesapeake Bay was. While there was plenty of rain and wind, the waters didn't seem too rough just yet. I thought that I would be the only person out , but there were several people walking their dogs, including this man.
