Hurricane Ike |
Eye of Storm
I am alive and well! My place downtown became a 10ft swimming pool and I have lost everything including the car on the 2nd floor of a garage.
For the most part this time is all about looking back on riding out the storm and looking forward to what I do next.
There was a lot of people doubting staying on the island, claiming that we were putting first responders in harms way. As reluctant as I was to claim "Eagle Scout" before the storm, I stand proud now. Dressed in waders and armed with a surfboard I became a first responders in the first few hours after the storm passed. We "First Responders" began patrols around 10am day of. I admire everything they have and done and continue to applaud their efforts. Rain continued to pour and winds were still gusting at over 40mph and these brave men and women went into heavily flooded areas to rescue so many people.
Bravo Galveston. Stay strong.
