100 mph winds slamming Jersey City

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter Nikolge captured this extraordinary footage of fierce winds outside his apartment on the Hudson River waterfront in Jersey City on Monday night as Sandy swept across the area. "It was hard to stand up and felt like a freight train was going through the area," he said. "At one point the Hudson [river] started coming through our building lobby." Our iReporter and his fiancee stayed safe in his building's sixth floor communal area after the windows of his neighbors' apartment on the 37th floor blew out. He said the view across to Manhattan was eerie, with blacked out buildings due to power losses and exploding power transformers providing the few areas of light. Luckily, his building's back up generator has kicked in, so he still has power. "Right now all you see is a dark city and police cars driving around, trying to keep law and order," he said. "It's like the movie 'The Day After Tomorrow'."

PLEASE NOTE: Sandy is an extremely dangerous storm. We urge iReporters to take caution when documenting the storm and follow local guidance. For storm information specific to your area, please monitor warnings issued by your local National Weather Service forecast office.
