Pumpkin Girandola - Spinning, Flying and Exploding Pumpkin

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Each year the CrackerJacks, one of the oldest fireworks clubs in the U.S., have a pumpkin busting contest. This year iReporter Matt Roach filmed his friend’s pumpkin Girandola display. One thing set it apart from the others. It flew off and then exploded. “I just told him we should put a pumpkin on it to do something different. It probably went 150-175 feet up,” said Mr Roach.

The 33-year-old from Youngstown, Ohio, wants to point out that CrackerJacks and other fireworks clubs across the county promote the safe use of fireworks. “Unlike a lot of the other videos out there that you see people doing stupid things,” he added.

The Pumpkin Girandola had two rocket motors to spin it then eight motors to lift it.

This was at a fully insured and permitted event. Do not try this at home.
